It’s about the AND. We need all our brilliant ideas to solve the climate crisis AND we need every person to consume less and reduce their trash, particularly single-use plastic. We cannot recycle our way out of the problem.
The idea that development can continue without constant expansion reframes growth as refinement rather than accumulation. I like the emphasis on betterment showing up in subtler ways that numbers rarely capture. It offers a more hopeful lens where maturity, efficiency, and wisdom count as advancement too.

This clicks. I read Type 2 not as kinder, but proportionate.
Type 2 growth preserves internal proportions as scale increases. Feedback is fast, reciprocity is legible, and tension is held rather than flattened.
When those ratios break, growth can continue numerically while coherence collapses. The failure mode isn’t overreach. It’s geometric distortion.
